What We Do

The Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church membership loves the Lord and enthusiastically follows His charge to work in His vineyard. Metropolitan stands proudly reflecting and promoting its rich heritage as the National Cathedral of African Methodism. The church answers the call to embrace God's people and share His love and blessings through worship, learning, enrichment, fellowship, and service experiences.

WORSHIP — engage in God-centered, scripture-based, spirit-filled prayer, liturgy, and music in reverence and religious devotional services that prepare each person to be more like Christ. "God is spirit, and his worshippers must worship in spirit and in truth." (John 4:24)

LEARNING — provide the occasion for creative and inclusive learning through Bible Study, workshops, seminars, and special programs teaching the importance of Christian stewardship. "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

ENRICHMENT — seek through enrichment to strengthen every person — adults and children — for Christian service and daily living. "Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you. I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand, which is the distinguishing mark in all my letters. This is how I write." (2 Thessalonians 3:16-17)

FELLOWSHIP — build bonds of concern and genuine commitment with one another. "We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son, Jesus Christ." (1 John 1:3)

SERVICE — serve the Lord and seek to provide spiritual guidance and sustenance. Everyone is invited and strongly encouraged to actively support the church and the larger community through participation in ministries, clubs, and organizations. Each group, though autonomous, is absolutely related and bound together as one in unity of worship, activity, and service, thereby enabling Metropolitan's members to respond to each other's needs. "Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen" (1 Peter 4:10-11)
